Week 2 brings us to Jillian K. She is a Regional Travel Specialist for the NY/Tri-State area. Originally from Sleepy Hollow, NY she attended Rye Country Day School. Read on to find out a little more about Jillian!
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is getting to offer students the opportunity to travel and see the world with their closest friends. It makes me happy to know that I am providing students with a chance to grow culturally and explore the world.
What’s your favorite Spring Break/ Graduation Trip destination and why?
I am biased because I spend most of my time in Nassau, Bahamas and am a glutton for island life in general. Other than Sky Juice, my favorite part of Nassau would have to be the people – they are friendly, welcoming and laid-back. I also really love Mexico for its beaches and culture, especially the Playa del Carmen/Tulum area.
What are you guilty pleasures?
In my free time, I am an active singer & songwriter. Music has always been my guilty pleasure and whenever I find myself in another country, I always research what music is popular there and who the newest local artists are. Sephora, yoga, swimming, hot baths, sleeping, & anything cashmere are also guilty pleasures.
What’s something interesting about you/ makes you different from the rest of the GradCity family?
The thrill of being in the music business now is that its anyone’s game. You can have a successful career from the comfort of your own laptop and enjoy access to the same perks that major record labels have access to. Now its just about writing and producing material that is a cut above the rest and knowing how to market it.
What is your favorite movie quote?
“There is a place you can touch a woman that will drive her crazy. Her heart.”
– “Milk Money”, starring Melanie Griffith
What are your hobbies?
Travel, Singing, Writing, Dance, Yoga/Pilates, Swimming, Drinking really good coffee at really good coffee shops & Reading.
Who is your favorite DJ/music artist?
This is tough for me & totally depends on the mood but if I had to choose a top person OVERALL, I’d say Tori Amos
What is your favorite high school memory?
Singing a mass for the Pope at the Vatican with my high-school choir in 9th grade
What is your favorite thing about traveling?
I love seeing how other cultures do things. Like what a mom feeds her daughter for a school lunch or how the infrastructure and city planning is set up or what kind of clothes are in fashion. People fascinate me and what motivates them to do things fascinates me even more.
On the flip side, I also love seeing that through all the tiny nuances, all cultures and people share the similar bonds of family, friendship and love. Its cool to see how you can connect with people without even speaking their language or knowing anything about them.
Did you travel with GradCity or StudentCity when you were in school? Where did you go and what was the best part?
I did! I am a StudentCity lifer and was a campus organizer at James Madison University, my alma mater, for 4 years. I traveled to many SCC destinations including: Cancun, Acapulco, Mazatlan, Bahamas and my absolute favorite, Barbados. The best part was the people you meet — SCC has become like a family to me over the years!!
Thank you Jillian for participating and opening up to our travellers. Keep your eyes our for Jillian at one of our GradCity trips!
